Community Programs

Prevention Services

Prevention Services are designed to promote healthier communities by addressing the root causes of substance abuse, mental health challenges, and other high-risk behaviors through research-based programs and community collaboration. These services focus on education, early intervention, skill development, and law enforcement training to build resilient youth and informed, supportive environments. The programs are offered across various settings, including schools and communities, with specialized training for professionals and active coalition involvement.

Evidence-based programs are offered in Elementary and Middle Schools to reduce addictive disorders, teen pregnancy, delinquency, school dropout, and youth violence. Specialized training for law enforcement officers helps them respond appropriately and compassionately to individuals experiencing mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use issues. Education, outreach, and compliance checks help decrease youth access to tobacco. Prevention Coalition meetings are held monthly in each of the eight parishes served, these meetings bring together community members, service providers, and stakeholders to share resources, align strategies, and enhance local prevention efforts.

Community Contract Partnerships

CLHSD partners with several providers in our community to ensure access to additional resources in Central Louisiana.  The Extra Mile provides several beneficial services, including drop-in centers, and job training to individuals receiving mental health treatment. The Louisiana State Opioid Response Grant provides life-saving Narcan for overdose reversal, education on safe medication practices, and products for proper storage and disposal of medication at no cost to the public. CLHSD supports the community through partnerships with the 9th Judicial District Court for mental health court coordination, SaveCenla for suicide prevention training, and Volunteers of America for homeless outreach and permanent supported housing. CLHSD also partners with Red River Treatment Center to provide inpatient adult substance use treatment and Central Louisiana Aides Supports Services for outreach to follow-up with high risk substance users, their associates, and neighborhood residents.
